Arizona nurses seek right to perform abortions under Prop. 139. The ACLU of Arizona filed suit in February on behalf of two nurses and two midwives, arguing that state laws barring advanced practice clinicians from providing abortion care violate Proposition 139, the 2024 voter-approved constitutional right to abortion. The lawsuit challenges nearly four dozen laws — including blanket prohibitions on nurses performing surgical or medication abortions and requirements for doctor involvement in routine pre-procedure tasks. A trial-scheduling hearing is set for April 2, 2027; Attorney General Kris Mayes sided with the ACLU on most provisions but will defend some parental consent and doctor-involvement requirements.

Arizona executes Leroy McGill for 2002 napalm attack. McGill, 63, was executed Wednesday morning at Florence Prison for a 2002 attack in which he threw a napalm-like substance on two people and set them on fire, killing one and severely burning the other. McGill's last words were "I'm going home"; a Catholic priest performed last rites at bedside. He had been on death row for more than two decades following a Maricopa County conviction for first-degree murder, attempted murder, arson, and endangerment.
