Federal judge strikes down Trump's $100,000 H-1B visa fee as unlawful tax. A Massachusetts federal judge ruled Monday that the Trump administration's requirement for a $100,000 H-1B visa fee exceeds executive authority, holding that it constitutes a tax only Congress can impose. Arizona was among 20 states that brought the lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security, which said it "disagrees with this blatant judicial activism" and maintains its commitment to prioritizing American workers in high-skilled fields.

Every Cochise County police agency will adopt the same iris-scanning technology used by ICE. All law enforcement agencies in Cochise County are set to implement biometric iris-scanning tech that ICE deploys during immigration enforcement and deportation operations. The rollout makes Cochise County one of the first in the region where every police agency will share the same biometric identification platform as federal immigration enforcement.

Benson swears in three new city council members following recall election. Derrick Fenn, Ross Kaplowitch, and Mark Boyle were officially sworn in Monday night after winning their respective recall races last month. The three identified planning, zoning, and the city budget — which must be finalized this month — as immediate priorities; a budget work session is scheduled for June 15.

Benson Unified superintendent resigns. The Benson Unified School District Governing Board voted unanimously Monday night to accept Superintendent Micah Mortensen's resignation. The board went into closed executive session with legal counsel before returning to vote publicly; no reason for the departure was given at the meeting.

The Tucson Unified School District governing board has begun a months-long evaluation process for potential school closures and consolidations, with a timeline that includes community input and data analysis before any board vote. The district has not yet identified specific campuses under review.

Ward 3 cooling and resource center now open amid triple-digit heat. The City of Tucson's Ward 3 cooling center at 1510 E. Grant Road (rear entrance) is open Monday through Friday, 1–5 p.m., through mid-September. Run by St. Francis Community Services, the center provides meals, water, housing assessments, and referrals for substance-use treatment, medical care, and domestic violence resources. It is open to any community member — not only those experiencing homelessness — and dogs are welcome.

Fox Theatre and Hughes Federal Credit Union announce Tucson's first performing-arts naming rights deal. Hughes FCU will commit $5 million over 10 years as part of the Fox Theatre's $26.6 million expansion project, which includes constructing a new adjacent venue at the corner of Stone Avenue and Congress Boulevard. The combined space will be called the "Hughes Center at the Fox" — Tucson's first corporate naming partnership for a performing arts venue — with construction set to begin in 2028 and the new venue targeting a 2030 opening to coincide with the Fox's 100th anniversary.

Pima County looks to convert FIFA opportunity after Iran moves World Cup training to Tijuana. Iran's national soccer team relocated its FIFA World Cup training camp from Tucson to Tijuana, Mexico, costing Pima County an anticipated economic and visibility boost tied to one of the world's largest sporting events. County officials are now focused on channeling the relationships and infrastructure built during the recruitment process into future sports-tourism opportunities.

Bavarian-owned biergarten opens on Tucson's west side. The Biergarten, a German kitchen and bar owned by Ulm natives Andre and Silke Linke, has opened at 2320 N. Silverbell Road just across I-10. The menu features schnitzels, bratwurst, sauerbraten, house-made spaetzle, and six German beers on tap, along with German wines and desserts.
