A slight chance of evening thunderstorms (20%) arrives after 5 p.m. Tonight stays warm — low around 79°F — with a lingering storm chance before 11 p.m. Friday brings another hot day near 106°F with afternoon storm chances increasing to 30%. The weekend offers some relief: highs around 104°F Saturday and Sunday, with monsoon storm chances climbing to 40–60% by Sunday afternoon as moisture pushes north.

Tucson lands $25M federal grant for Rillito River Bridge reconstruction. The city of Tucson has been awarded a $25 million federal grant to replace the Rillito River bridge and reconstruct approximately one mile of North 1st Avenue between Wetmore Road and River Road, according to KVOA.
Irvington Road / I-19 interchange construction set to begin this month. A $53.4 million reconstruction project at the Irvington Road and Interstate 19 interchange is scheduled to begin in July, according to KOLD. The project is expected to take approximately 20 months to complete.

Arizona's transgender school sports ban challenge collapses. A legal challenge to Arizona's ban on transgender athletes in school sports is set to end after the lone teen plaintiff withdrew from the case, according to the Arizona Mirror. The lawsuit had been in litigation for several years.

TUSD chronic absenteeism rate among worst in Arizona. Nearly half of students in Tucson Unified School District are chronically absent, and state data indicates the problem is worsening, according to KOLD. U of A places two more fraternities on probation. The University of Arizona has placed Sigma Phi Epsilon and Phi Delta Theta on probation following investigations that began this spring, according to KVOA.

Federal approval granted for critical-minerals mine in Patagonia jaguar habitat. The U.S. Forest Service has given final approval to a proposed mine in southern Arizona that would extract up to five critical minerals.
