⚠️ FLOOD WATCH: Not yet in effect — begins at 2 p.m. today and runs through 10 p.m. this evening. The National Weather Service in Tucson says flash flooding from excessive rainfall remains possible across the Tucson metro area, the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, the Baboquivari Mountains, the Tohono O'odham Nation, western Pima County, the Upper Santa Cruz River Valley/Altar Valley and south-central and southeast Pinal County. Excessive runoff may flood rivers, creeks, streams, low-lying areas and poor-drainage locations.
Today: sunny early with a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 and 5 p.m., then storms likely. High near 102, falling to around 98 in the afternoon, with heat index values as high as 105. West wind 2 to 16 mph; 60% chance of precipitation. Tonight: showers and thunderstorms likely before 2 a.m., mostly cloudy, low around 75. Tuesday: sunny turning stormy in the afternoon, high near 98, 40% chance of precipitation, with storms likely Tuesday night.
Outlook: A wet, cooler stretch settles in midweek, with rain chances near 70% Wednesday and a high near 94, then a 50% chance Thursday with a high near 95. Overnight lows drop into the low 70s. Repeated rounds of storms mean runoff and washes are the main hazard through the week.

Lightning-sparked wildfire burning in Catalinas near Finger Rock. A wildfire was still burning north of Tucson in the rugged Finger Rock Canyon area of the Santa Catalina Mountains, officials said. KOLD reported the fire was likely started by a lightning strike.

State inspection found 11 deficiencies at Marana-area youth behavioral health center. State inspectors visited the Artemis Adolescent Healing Center near Marana on May 7 and May 8 and documented 11 deficiencies, according to KGUN 9. A former employee spoke with the station about conditions at the facility.

Tohono O'odham Nation closes tribal land to border wall contractors. The Nation is closing tribal lands in response to federal contractors attempting to begin border wall construction and has posted "No Trespassing" warnings, according to KVOA and the Arizona Daily Star. The Nation has also sued the Department of Homeland Security over plans to use reservation land and water for wall construction.

Organ Pipe closes roads as second round of wall construction ramps up. Federal officials have closed roads inside Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument as construction of new border wall segments accelerates along the Arizona-Mexico border, the Arizona Daily Star reported.

Oro Valley advances long-sought new police headquarters. The Oro Valley Police Department has needed a new headquarters "for two decades now," Deputy Chief Curtiss Hicks told Inside Tucson Business, which reported the project is expected to address longstanding space needs and, in Hicks' view, serve as a recruiting tool for the department.

Block A Sports Bar and Grill opens downtown in former HiFi space. The restaurant is scheduled to open Monday, Aug. 10, in downtown Tucson, replacing HiFi Kitchen and Cocktails, according to KGUN 9.
Green Valley house at center of assisted-living fight listed for sale. After nearly three years of dispute, the home a Green Valley neighborhood had fought over is now up for sale, and it appears the assisted living facility will not open, Green Valley News reported.

Two projects reshape access at Marshall Gulch, Sabino Canyon Park Road. One completed project and one still under way are changing parking, driving and walking conditions at Marshall Gulch and along lower Sabino Canyon Park Road below Summerhaven, according to Inside Tucson Business.

Habitat for Humanity Tucson seeks summer volunteers. The group has launched its annual Desert Warriors summer volunteer program, asking community members to help build affordable housing at its Angels Crossing development through August, KVOA reported.
U of A launches state office focused on employment for people with disabilities. The University of Arizona says the new Arizona Office of Employment First, hosted by its Sonoran Center for Excellence in Disabilities, will work with the Arizona Department of Economic Security's Vocational Rehabilitation Program and other statewide partners to support job seekers with disabilities.

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.). Kelly said in an Aug. 9 post marking the fourth anniversary of the CHIPS and Science Act that microchip manufacturing is returning to the U.S. and that Arizona has seen tens of thousands of new jobs as a result.
