⚠️ EXTREME HEAT WARNING — takes effect 10 a.m. today, in force until 8 p.m. Friday. The National Weather Service in Tucson warns of dangerously hot conditions across the Tucson metro area, western Pima County, the Tohono O'odham Nation, Pinal County and the Upper Gila River Valley, with highs of 103 to 110 and overnight lows only falling to 79 to 85. Major HeatRisk is expected, and forecasters note heat-related illnesses increase significantly during events like this.

Today: sunny and 107, with a heat index as high as 105 and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m.; southeast wind around 7 mph. Tonight: partly cloudy, low around 82. Tuesday: sunny, high near 106, low again near 82.

Outlook: Highs hold near 105 Wednesday and Thursday with lows in the low 80s, so there is little overnight relief through the warning period. Late-day thunderstorm chances tick up midweek, reaching about 30% Thursday evening. KVOA has declared a StormTracker 4 Alert Day for the heat, and KOLD is forecasting hot, humid conditions all week.

Attorney general sues owners of three Tucson apartment complexes over failing AC. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is suing the owners of three Tucson apartment complexes over broken air conditioning and what her office describes as dangerous living conditions, according to KGUN 9. Residents of the Sienna Ridge complex told the station they have dealt with the problems for years; the suit lands as an Extreme Heat Warning takes effect across the region.

Tribes press feds to delay Colorado River plan as Lake Powell hits record low. The Colorado River Indian Tribes, Arizona's largest water rights holder, has issued a second call for federal officials to delay action on a new Colorado River operating plan, the Arizona Daily Star reports. Separately, the Star reports Lake Powell has fallen to its lowest level on record amid worsening Western drought — a system that supplies part of Tucson's water through the Central Arizona Project.

🚨 Public Safety

Magnitude 4.0 earthquake near the border felt in Douglas. A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck near Agua Prieta, Sonora, just before 3 a.m. Sunday and was felt across the Douglas area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey as reported by KOLD, KVOA and KGUN 9. No injuries or damage have been reported in the coverage.

Fatal crash closed westbound I-10 near Benson. A three-vehicle crash at milepost 299 near Benson shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 on Sunday afternoon, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. At least one person was killed, KOLD reported; the freeway has since reopened.

Green Valley couple escape house fire that destroyed home, vehicles. A Green Valley couple escaped injury in an early Sunday morning fire but lost their dog, their home and two vehicles, Green Valley News reports. A cause was not given in the report.

Golf cart rollover in Green Valley prompts technical rescue. Two people were hospitalized Saturday after a golf cart overturned onto a steep embankment along an arroyo, trapping one rider underneath. Santa Rita Fire District and Pima County crews freed the person in what responders described as a difficult extrication.
