Feds decline to renew permits for 12 Humane Borders water stations. The Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service declined to renew permits for a dozen water stations run by the Tucson-based nonprofit Humane Borders, the group said. The group says that is 30% of its permitted stations, and it singled out the loss of stations at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Owners said they just had their slowest summer since the pandemic. Chef Maria Mazon, owner of Boca, led the meeting. "4th avenue is slowly disappearing and all because of parking," she said.

Santa Rita Park reopens after $8 million renovation; Jacobs Park next. The city is scheduled to celebrate the grand reopening of Santa Rita Park, 401 E. 22nd St., at 5 p.m. today with a ribbon-cutting. The renovation added a new splash pad, playground and sports fields, and a Movie in the Park follows at 6 p.m. Saturday. Jacobs Park and the Nicolas P. Ochoa Soccer Complex, 3300 N. Fairview Ave., are scheduled to reopen at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 15. Mayor Regina Romero credited Proposition 407 and the National Park Service with funding the Jacobs Park upgrades.
