What the office does
By Dec. 15 each year the assessor must identify, by diligent inquiry and examination, all real property in the county that is subject to taxation and not valued by the state. For each parcel the assessor determines who owns, claims, possesses or controls it, determines its full cash value as of the following Jan. 1 using the state Department of Revenue's manuals and procedures, and lists the property with that valuation for use on the tax roll. The oath of office commits the assessor to value property "without favor or partiality."
