The city of South Tucson is asking outside agencies to probe an incident in which ICE officers used pepper spray during a traffic stop within city limits. The incident raised questions about federal immigration enforcement tactics in the small enclave municipality, which has its own police department.

The Tucson Unified School District governing board has launched a months-long evaluation of potential school closures and consolidations, laying out a timeline that will include community input and data analysis before any board vote. The review comes amid long-running enrollment declines across the district.

DHS disputes Democrats' accounts of overcrowding at Arizona ICE facility. The Department of Homeland Security denied allegations of overcrowding and overflowing toilets at the Mesa Arizona Removal Operations Coordination Center, calling lawmakers' claims "false" — despite the facility's own data showing daily populations as high as 777 people against a 157-person capacity. U.S. Reps. Yassamin Ansari and Greg Stanton, who conducted a second unannounced oversight visit this week, said the agency is lying about what they personally observed.

Arizona veterans press congressional Republicans to back War Powers Resolution on Iran. Members of the progressive veterans group VetsForward gathered at the state Capitol Thursday to urge Republican lawmakers to support a Senate War Powers Resolution that would block President Trump from further military action against Iran without congressional approval. The Senate voted 50-47 to advance the resolution Tuesday; 13 U.S. service members have been killed in the conflict.

A new analysis from the Private Equity Stakeholder Project found that private equity companies own approximately 13% of U.S. apartment units nationally, with Arizona among the states with the highest concentration — and among those with the largest increases in cost-burdened renters. More than 57% of the roughly 3 million private equity-owned units were acquired since 2018.
