Arizona passes $18.3B budget with Trump tax cuts, data center freeze, and university cuts. A bipartisan majority in the Arizona Legislature approved an $18.3 billion state budget Thursday, conforming Arizona's tax code with the federal "One Big Beautiful Bill" cuts — changes projected to reduce state revenue by $1.4 billion over three years. Democrats negotiated a first-in-the-nation moratorium on new data center tax incentive certificates (preserving an estimated $57 million for taxpayers), limited agency cuts to 2.5% from the GOP's proposed 5%, and protected 40,000 Arizonans from Medicaid removal. The budget also includes a $16 million cut to state university funding and $14.2 million for 100 new DPS troopers, half dedicated to immigration enforcement. Gov. Katie Hobbs had vetoed an earlier Republican-only version in May.

Eastside neighbors press developer for firm end date on Tanque Verde Road construction. The company has been given a final 40-day deadline — through the end of July — before permits expire; the developer says it intends to finish by June 30. Delays have been attributed to unmarked underground gas and water lines, and a May gas line strike caused a full road closure during rush hour.
