Gov. Hobbs signs $18.3B state budget with $1.4B in Trump-conforming tax cuts. Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs signed the fiscal year 2027 budget into law Saturday — about two weeks before the deadline to avoid a government shutdown. The bipartisan plan includes no taxes on tips and overtime, a higher standard deduction, a $6,000 senior tax deduction, and a new child care tax credit, while cutting most state agency budgets by 2.5%. Democrats secured a three-year moratorium on new data center tax credits; Republicans secured full conformity with President Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill" tax cuts and no guardrails on the $1B+ universal school voucher (ESA) program.
Arizona Legislature adjourns after Republicans send conservative agenda to November ballot. The 2026 legislative session ended early Saturday morning after a marathon final day that ran past 4 a.m. Republicans used the closing hours to send a series of ballot referrals — including voter ID requirements, expanded school vouchers, and a photo radar ban — directly to voters, bypassing the governor's veto pen. Tucson Democratic Rep. Alma Hernandez publicly criticized her own party for negotiating the budget without securing an earlier adjournment, saying Democrats gave Republicans a blank check for late-night ballot maneuvering.
Arizona primary election voter registration deadline is June 22. AZPM reports that the deadline to register to vote in Arizona's 2026 primary election is Monday, June 22. Arizonans can visit the AZPM Election Center for complete coverage of candidate races and key dates.

All Cochise County law enforcement agencies will adopt ICE's iris scanner technology. Every police agency in Cochise County — including Border Patrol, local departments, and the sheriff's office — will soon use the same iris-scanning biometric identification technology deployed by ICE in deportation operations, according to AZPM. The rollout is the first countywide adoption of the technology in Arizona and raises questions from civil liberties advocates about its use on communities with large immigrant populations in the border region.
