Bryce Nolan Coleman, a worker at Sonora Behavioral Health near Orange Grove and La Cholla, was arrested Monday after court documents allege he repeatedly and with increasing aggression shoved a patient — identified as Bluesky Thomas — back into his room in October, leaving the man with a broken neck, knocked-out teeth, and liver lacerations; Thomas died in a hospital the next day. The Arizona Department of Health Services had conducted 24 inspections of the facility over roughly the last three years and fined Sonora Health $10,000 earlier this year for infractions involving several patients.

A proposed constitutional amendment — HCR2040 — originally aimed at defunding the Arizona Education Association includes language critics say could bar all public-sector labor unions, including those representing law enforcement and firefighters, from negotiating employment terms with any level of Arizona government. The Arizona Police Association, which opposes the measure, warned the broadly worded amendment "could invalidate all existing labor agreements," and the issue is expected to go before voters in November.
