Three arrested after security guard assaulted at midtown gas station. Tucson Police Department arrested three men following an attack on a security guard who was patrolling a midtown gas station early Thursday morning; the guard was hospitalized. Officers have since taken suspects into custody.
Pocket Fire containment could take months, officials say. The Pocket Fire may require heavy monsoon rains to fully extinguish due to challenging terrain, according to fire officials. Containment of the most difficult portions of the blaze could stretch out over months.
Vehicle rollover sparks brush fire in Sahuarita. Firefighters responded Friday afternoon to a roadside brush fire in Sahuarita ignited by a vehicle rollover. The fire was brought under control.
Crash temporarily shuts down I-10 eastbound near Vail; secondary intersection also closed. A collision closed all eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Vail on Friday evening. A nearby intersection at East Sahuarita Road and North Calle Rinconado was also shut down as part of the crash investigation but has since reopened, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Hiker rescued from Madera Canyon trail after medical emergency. Santa Rita Fire District crews rescued a hiker experiencing a medical emergency Friday morning on the Bog Spring Trail in Madera Canyon.

Tucson to replace A Mountain fireworks with drone show starting next year. The City of Tucson announced this week that the traditional fireworks display at "A" Mountain will be retired after this year's Independence Day celebration. Beginning in 2027, the annual Fourth of July event will feature a drone show in its place.
Saguaro National Park to host July 4th naturalization ceremony. With Arizona's federal courthouses not holding naturalization ceremonies during the Independence Day holiday this year, Saguaro National Park is scheduled to host the ceremony instead, according to KVOA.

Historic Armory Park reopens after $1.7 million renovation. Armory Park in central Tucson reopened Thursday evening following months of renovations totaling $1.7 million. The celebration drew families and community members to the upgraded park, which now features a new plaza and performance area.

New exhibit opens today at Arizona History Museum marking nation's 250th. "Arizona Histories, American Stories," a new display using artifacts from across the state to highlight key periods in American history, opened July 4 at the Arizona History Museum in Tucson.
Tucson native wins best actress at national high school musical theatre awards. Samia Posadas, a Tucson native, took home the best actress award at the Jimmy Awards — the National High School Musical Theatre Awards — held in New York City.
Sahuarita High School marching band sidelined by weather at Philadelphia parade. The Sahuarita High School marching band, chosen as Arizona's sole representative to the Philadelphia Independence Day parade, was unable to perform after the event was canceled due to weather. The band had spent months fundraising and preparing for the appearance, according to the Green Valley News.
